Interview on the Subjective Podcast

April 30, 2015 Eli Schiff

In early April I was interviewed on the subjective.fm podcast about everything from the Critical Sharks series, to Apple's Human Interface Guidelines (HIG), to the Apple Watch and Watch OS. Give the interview a listen.

A select quote of mine from six minutes into the podcast:

In terms of Apple’s use of the HIG (Human Interface Guidelines), it’s a philosophy on why interfaces have been designed the way they are. If you go back to the Xerox Star and some of the early computers, a lot of the same principles that came out of the thinking of the early days of interface design are reflected in Apple’s writing in the HIG. The HIG is one of those big documents that is seminal, that any interface designer should read. But I don’t think it’s enough to just read today’s HIG. A lot of designers would actually benefit from going back to the 1995 HIG to learn…how to represent things in a way users can understand.

You can see the shownotes and learn more about the podcast on the subjective.fm page.
